This position, which is not a litigation position, is for a junior level attorney (insurance experience is a plus) to join the Insurance Coverage team in our New York City. The Coverage team represents international and domestic insurers in complex insurance and coverage matters involving all manner of liability policies, with this particular position focusing on Employment Practices Liability (“EPL”). We are seeking a bright attorney and an excellent writer who is highly motivated and proactive – someone with the willingness and capability to act independently and is comfortable with client interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Issue coverage opinions and analyze liability and damages with respect to underlying EPL claims;
  • Identify coverage issues and defenses and provide coverage advice and recommendations to clients;
  • Monitor EPL claims in various stages from inception through resolution, including complex litigation in courts worldwide;
  • Work with policyholders and defense counsel concerning claim resolution strategy and participate in settlement negotiations, mediations and arbitration of claims;
  • Work cooperatively with others; and
  • Interact with clients, brokers, policyholders and defense counsel on a daily basis.

Education and Experience Required

  • Admission (or awaiting admission) to practice in either New York or New Jersey;
  • Insurance experience and/or experience with employment-related matters a plus, but not required.

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong legal research, writing and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to interact with clients and command client confidence;
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; and
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems quickly.

The anticipated pay range for this role is $100,000 - $130,000, which represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.
